We offer individual treatment, care, and support to children and young people in their own homes. A good education is essential for a safe and secure childhood. In Kalundborg Municipality, there is a wide selection of schools, after-school care (SFO), and leisure activities – offering something for everyone.

The municipality is divided into 15 primary school districts, each assigned to a local public school. For the optional 10th grade, the entire municipality is considered one school district. Kalundborg Municipality also offers special education services, including three inclusion centers and two special schools.

The inclusion centers provide special education support integrated with the mainstream schools. These are for students who do not benefit from regular classroom teaching but whose needs do not require placement in a specialized school.

School-based leisure time programs (SFO) are available at all public schools in Kalundborg Municipality. SFO covers children in preparatory class to 3rd grade (SFO I) and 4th to 6th grade (SFO II). The SFO is part of the public school system and is integrated into both the physical environment and the organization of the school.

The Social Adult Services – Center 1 provides pedagogical and practical support to citizens with permanent disabilities and various challenges, including developmental disabilities, visual impairments, autism, physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, multiple disabilities, communication impairments, and more.

Center 1 consists of residential facilities, activity and social programs, and sheltered employment, all located in Kalundborg Municipality.

We are a team of 330 pedagogical and healthcare professionals, 6 administrative staff, 8 team leaders, and 1 center manager.

Avista Green / Avista Oil

A shared sustainable future!

Have you ever wondered what happens to the oil that is drained from cars at the various workshops across the country?

The answer is quite simple - it gets recycled at AVISTA.

How, you might think.

Our tanker trucks collect about 80% of all waste oil in Denmark. In fact, we collect even more than that. We just do it for a collaborator. Roughly speaking, all waste oil collected in Denmark ends up at AVISTA - in one way or another. When our skilled drivers have traveled the country collecting the used oil, it is transported to our refinery at the port in Kalundborg, where it is processed in our re-refining plant. Once such a batch of waste oil has gone through AVISTA's facilities, it comes out again as refined base oil, along with some by-products that can be recycled in various industries worldwide.

If you're going to work with oil, there's only one way - the AVISTA way.

Unibio is an innovative developer of protein production technology that converts methane from any source into a highly concentrated protein raw material used as ingredients in feed. Additionally, we are developing the application of our product for food.

Unibio’s bio-industrial innovation disrupts the protein value chain by decoupling protein production from farming and fishing and offering a sustainable solution.

The technology developed by Unibio replicates the microbiological processes that occur in nature every day. Unibio has succeeded in transferring this natural conversion of methane to protein into a viable bio-industrial process using the U-Loop® fermentor patented by Unibio. The fermentation technology has been demonstrated in pilot and demonstration-scale in Kalundborg and is in operation on an industrial scale in Ivangorod, Russia. Our development facility in Kalundborg utilize biogas supplied by Kalundborg Bioenergy.

ISK, The International School of Kalundborg, welcomes students from international families living temporarily in Denmark due to work. If space allows, Danish students may also be admitted. Opening in August 2025, ISK will enroll students from Grade 0 to Grade 7, expanding to Grade 8 in 2026 and Grade 9 in 2027. The school will be located in Kalundborg, closely connected to Herredsåsen School, to utilize existing facilities and will operate under the law governing municipal international schools.

The school will offer a bilingual program certified by Cambridge, requiring staff to be proficient in English.
